Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Credit Program The Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Revolving Credit Program was established in 1937 and continues to provide service to tribal members for the past 68 years. Services provided include: short-term consumer loans, rehabilitation loans, and other services such as Bureau of Indian Affairs Loan Guaranty and interest Subsidy, credit counseling, referrals to non-Bureau lenders, and assistance in developing business and economic ventures when requested by the Tribes or individuals.
Policy Administrators Tribal Credit Board is composed of 3 tribal members appointed by the Fort Hall Business Council to establish and set loan policies, take action on loan requests, to follow up on loans to ensure that funds are properly used, to follow up on delinquent accounts, and take appropriate action to resolve problem accounts. Appointments are for 3 years with staggered terms.
Administration Credit staff is composed of individuals who research and prepare loan applications to be considered by the Tribal Credit Board, record meeting transactions, prepare and process loans approved by the Board, follow up to ensure all security is perfected, collect loan payments, prepare and process correspondence to clients advising of loan deficiencies, delinquencies, and upon approval by the Board prepare defaults, legal and/or civil action for collection of accounts; maintains files with proper documentation of all transactions.
All staff members are trained and able to function in all positions when staff members are on leave from their positions.
The Credit Officer also serves in an advisory and technical capacity to the Fort Hall Business Council and the Bureau of Indian Affairs Superintendent on matters of credit procedures, administration of BIA loans, loan guarantees and interest subsidy requests, and mediates requests for mortgages of trust lands by individuals with non-Bureau lenders. A high degree of confidentiality is maintained in the Tribal Credit office.
To provide the best possible service pursuant to the Tribes' Declaration of Policies and Plan of Operation - Credit Program.
To ensure the availability of funds to meet the financial needs of the enrolled tribal membership.
To seek ways to improve the program services available.
To maintain quality working relationships with other financial and federal insitutions providing financing to enrolled members, as well as non-enrolled Indians residing on or who have ownership to trust lands located on the Fort Hall Indian reservation.
Provide short term consumer financing.
To assist individuals in securing financing and services available through other federal and financial institutions, and to provide counseling to solve debt and/or credit problems whenever requested.
Utilization of natural resources owned or available.
Maintain lands in tribal ownership through land consolidation by purchase.
