Broadband Program

The Broadband Infrastructure Deployment project proposes to install middle-mile and last-mile fiber and last-mile fixed wireless, directly connecting 408 unserved Native American households with fiber-to-the-home 100 Mbps/100 Mbps service.

Program Goals

The Broadband Program works to ensure all residents have the opportunity to thrive in the digital economy. The goal of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes Broadband is to empower all residents of the Fort Hall Reservation by offering dependable and affordable broadband internet service. This initiative extends beyond connectivity, including digital literacy training, support, and providing internet-ready devices to enhance the overall opportunities and well-being of the community members.

Limited Internet Access

Residents within the reservation face constraints in accessing the internet, from healthcare, education, job searching and voting . Recognizing the importance of addressing these constraints, our Broadband Program aims to enhance connectivity, ensuring that our community members can access these essential services and actively participate in various facets of life.

The Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program Grant, administered by the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) within the United States Department of Commerce, focuses on developing and deploying broadband internet on the Fort Hall Reservation.

Affordable, robust broadband internet service
Internet-enabled devices that meet the needs of the user
Access to digital literacy training
Quality technical support
Applications and online content designed to enable and encourage self-sufficiency, participation, and collaboration

The National Digital Inclusion Alliance (NDIA) defines digital equity as “a condition in which all individuals and communities have the information technology capacity needed for full participation in our society, democracy, and economy.”

The gap between those who have affordable access, skills, and support to effectively engage online and those who do not. The digital divide disproportionately affects people of color, Tribal lands, households with low incomes, people with disabilities, people in rural areas, and older adults.
