Brush fire along I-86 quickly contained

FORT HALL, Idaho — On June 30, 2026 a brush fire occurred along Interstate 86 between mileposts 48 and 49 and was quickly contained following a coordinated response by multiple fire agencies.

The fire started at around 5:40 p.m. near the railroad tracks adjacent to I-86. According to Fort Hall Fire Department Incident Commander Lawrence Wadsworth, the fire appears to have originated from a transformer on a power pole before spreading into nearby vegetation.

Firefighters from the Fort Hall Fire Department, U.S. Wildland Fire Service, and American Falls Fire Department responded to the scene and contained and controlled the fire by approximately 7 p.m.

The fire burned an estimated one-half acre. No injuries or significant property damage were reported.
