Cleve Davis is Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Library Author of the Month
FORT HALL – Cleve Davis, author of “So Long as Game May Be Found Thereon… Indian Treaty Hunting from Fort Hall to Wyoming and Beyond” is the Tribal Library Author of the Month.
Davis is a Shoshone-Bannock author, rancher, father, and scientist. Raised on the Fort Hall Reservation, Davis provides his personal perspectives exploring the intersection of memories, land, and law. He writes from his own experience and does not speak on behalf of the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes. As a direct descendant of Pohave (John Race Horse Sr.), the Bannock man at the heart of the Ward v. Race Horse Supreme Court case, Davis exposes the history of conspiracy, violence, and legal betrayal that still shapes Indian hunting rights in the American West.
This book is his offering—part legal testimony, part cultural remembrance, and part wake-up call to those still fighting for a place in their own homelands. It’s written not just for Indians, but for anyone willing to see the American West through different eyes.
Meet the Author of the Month, December 19 at 6 p.m. at the Tribal Library, located at the Old Casino, in Fort Hall, Idaho for an enjoyable evening learning about Tribal Treaty and Hunting Rights from a Tribal member’s personal perspective.
Light refreshments will be available. For more information, please contact the Tribal Library at (208) 478-3919 or TribalLibrary@sbtribes.com
