FHBC members Thompson & Matsaw in Washington D.C. for Tribal Nations Summit, other meetings

WASHINGTON – Scenes from the first day of the White House Tribal Nations Summit December 6 and 7 at the Department of the Interior where Fort Hall Business Council Vice Chairperson Donna Thompson attended. Also representing the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes is FHBC member Sammy Matsaw Jr. who attended meetings coordinated by Mapetsi Policy Group.

The council members also met with Rep. Mike Simpson (R-ID), Senator James Risch (R-ID), Senator Mike Crapo (R-ID) and federal agencies.

The White House Tribal Nations Summit is chaired by U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs Tom Perez, and White House Domestic Policy Advisor Neera Tanden. It provides for federally recognized tribal leaders and the Administration to discuss ways the federal government can invest in and strengthen Native communities for future generations.

President Joseph R. Biden Jr. and Vice President Kamala Harris addressed tribal leaders in the afternoon.
