Bannock Creek District Representative
Russell Haskett is currently serving his first term on the Fort Hall Business Council; he makes his home in the Bannock Creek District. He was raised on the Fort Hall Reservation in a family that ran cattle and has spent his entire life living in the community he now helps lead.
With a 35-year career in public service, Haskett brings a wealth of experience to the Council. He began working for the Shoshone-Bannock Tribes as a Tribal Game Warden, a role he had for 15 years. He later transitioned to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, where he served as a Federal Wildlife Officer for 20 years until his retirement. His early interest in the outdoors helped launch his long-standing career in natural resources and law enforcement.
As an active member of the community, Haskett has closely followed Tribal government activities and brings a renewed perspective to Council discussions. He’s committed to being a strong advocate for community voices and emphasizes the importance of improving two-way communication between tribal leadership and membership.
As a Council member, Haskett’s priorities include transparency, accountability, and equitable decision-making. His career experience has reinforced his dedication to safeguarding the Tribe’s lands, wildlife, and natural resources for future generations.
“My whole adult career has been in civil service,” Haskett said. “This is just a continuation of that, in a different capacity. I want to be a positive role model and someone our community members feel comfortable coming to with their concerns.”
When not attending meetings, Haskett makes it a point to be accessible in his office and welcomes conversations with tribal members.
