Sixth grade students attending a field trip to Soda Springs with ISU Dr. Carrie Bottenberg and Dr. Laticia Herkshan to explore the activity created by the ground water. This area was part of a hot spot that is now under Yellowstone. Students learned about pH levels where they collected pH data and entered the levels into a GIS program on a map of the area. The students were able to see the geyser from the geothermal pressure in the ground. Many students treated the fresh spring water and searched out a travertine cave. I enjoyed watching my students engage and learn about scientific research and data collection of the geology in our area. -Mrs. Green
