The Fort Hall Business Council is aware of a recent social media post showing U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officers in Idaho Falls. As HSI falls under the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), we understand that this report may cause concern among our Tribal members and families. With a Field Office in Idaho Falls responsible for immigration enforcement in the region, this citing should be expected.
The safety and rights of our people are our top priorities. At this time, there have been no confirmed ICE enforcement activities on the Fort Hall Indian Reservation. The Council is closely monitoring the situation locally and nationally to protect our membership.
Out of an abundance of caution, Tribal members are encouraged to carry their Tribal ID and, if possible, keep a photo of it on their phone. Other forms of identification may also be helpful, such as a state ID, driver’s license, or passport.
If approached by an ICE agent, Tribal members should remain calm and respectful. Present your identification, follow the Agent’s instructions, ask for the Agent’s name, and report the encounter via the Fort Hall Police Department’s non-emergency line at (208) 238-4000. If possible, record the encounter.
Our presence on this land is enduring. The Fort Hall Indian Reservation is home to our people. The Fort Hall Business Council stands firmly with our tribal members and is committed to protecting their safety, rights, and sovereignty.
